Electrical Buses from Volvo to Ply on Thane Roads Soon

Published On Mar 15, 2016By Lisa Pradhan

Following the move of Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation, Thane will soon be introducing electric buses for public transportation system. Volvo India has recently signed a MoU with Thane Municipal Corporation for the introduction of hybrid buses. Volvo will explore the road conditions and the transport facilities in the region for analysing the maneuverability of these high-end buses. Based on the study, the Swedish firm will introduce the Hybrid buses in the city.

As per the inside sources of TMC transport department, these hybrid buses will lower the maintenance costs, noise levels and air pollution.

"In the wake of rising pollution, these buses will do wonders and will definitely ease traveling experience. As these will run on battery or motor, it will save diesel to a great extent. However saying this, Volvo will also do mobility survey and will later decide what kind of extra transportation system will be brought into the city,” said an in-house member of civic body.

People in the city are reacting positively towards the new transport concept and are waiting for them to ply on roads.

"Forty years ago, when I shifted to Thane from Prabhadevi, my relatives used to say that I am moving to nothing but wilderness. And now, Thane is getting smart with the novel initiatives. Electrical as well as hybrid buses will hopefully replace all the existing buses,” said Rema Menon, a resident of Thane.

"These electrical hybrid buses will run on battery or motor and will definitely decrease air and noise pollution," said Pravin Agarwal, another local citizen.
